Social Justice Poetry

Advice for Ambitious Careerists | A Social Justice Poem by Daniel Klawitter

…all knowledge, when separated from justice and virtue,
is seen to be cunning and not wisdom; – Plato, Menexenus.

It may sound brutal but I beg you —
Imagine yourself at your own funeral.
How no one will care how much money
You made; how successful you were or weren’t.

What they’ll remember is how you treated others;
And the bridges you burnt to get what
you thought you wanted.

You can have the shrewdest strategy
As you climb that management ladder.
But cunning isn’t wisdom —
And the difference is all that matters.
