Social Justice Poetry

Amoeba Jr. | A Social Justice Poem by JD DeHart

From the way he swims
it’s clear to see he needs
someone to believe he is more
than a unicellular entity;
more than his dilapidated home,
more than this father’s
lack of a job,
more than his brothers’
multiple mistakes,
more than the rusted out car
in the driveway;
it’s clear that he needs to see
that there is a horizon,
that he can and will be something,
and that doors can still be opened,
kindness still be offered,
and chances still come twice.
