Social Justice Poetry

Caste in India | A Social Justice Poem by Ananya S. Guha

Caste is hidden in serpentine
streets and backwaters, in India.
Sometimes you hear of deaths. Killings because of
people who handle superiority
with dexterity. They pray.
Outside the firing line
there are stories of children lynched.
Caste in India is climbing
a ladder of hope.
Outside we pray.
Inside — die.

Don’t allow them to enter
temples, eat, wash, breathe and even fornicate.
Caste is a swollen ulcer.
Outside we pray.
Inside — die.
