When We Laugh | A Social Justice Poem by Oluwatosin Faith Kolawole

We are the less privileged
And that’s all you see us as
But when we laugh, the earth shakes

We might have our clothes tattered;
And our roofs, thatched
On a deserted hut
You say it’s jagged! Shabby! Old!
We call it home
And in it, we give our best laughter

Don’t call us weak
We are lions!

Our pockets aren’t filled with cash
But the joy in our hearts can’t be bought
We love and live;
We dance for joy

When we laugh
We laugh longer and better
